02 - Time Stands Still
Lyrics:
The stage is set, the players pass
Here comes a clown, filled with laughing gas
An acrobatic monkey gets hit by a truck
Doing tricks for all of us his pockets full of bucks.

Cats scuffle and malinger, slink off to paw some dame
Not listening to a single note, heads halfway in the game
The barber cuts his son’s wild hair, a grocer sells him food
A simplified agenda, a really laid back dude

CHORUS
How will you know if your life slips by
like a play that no one sees
When thoughts overflow the tongue is slow
And you can’t say what you mean
Words stall, tears fall
Time stands still

INSTRUMENTAL - VERSE / CHORUS

The ragged son stumbles past, venom in his veins
The barber throws his scissors, his life goes down the drain
Emperors and idiots inhabit story lands
Lessons learned from history moulder in their hands

The curtain falls slowly, lights fade to dim
The crowd laughs and shuffles out, a satiated grin
You stand up in your rumpled suit, your pants without a pleat
Nobody in the theater takes note of your defeat

CHORUS
How will you know if your life slips by
like a play that no one sees
When thoughts overflow the tongue is slow
And you can’t say what you mean
Words stall, tears fall
Time stands still

Reid again started the lyrics with a poem, and we went back and forth as usual until it was ready for music.

This is poignant, because Reid was thinking of someone he loved who was having a really hard time.
